Update 4/4/09:  Our Fram CQ girls were back in action in Cal South’s State Cup in Bakersfield today.  Our first opponent was against a very good team from the Presidio League, Carlsbad Lightning Red.  The game was evenly matched early in the first half, but neither team could score.  However, Kendall Collard made an excellent cross and Jenny Rheingold was able to tap it in for the game’s first score.  We went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.   Unfortunately, Carlsbad took advantage of a rare mistake on defense and tied up the score early in the second half.  Fortunately, though, the tie was short lived as Jackie McGuinness found the back of the net a few minutes later.  Fram CQ would hold onto to win, 2-1.

The second game was against ASC Brasilia.  ASC showed a lot of aggressiveness in the first half, and Fram CQ found themselves in a dogfight as they entered the half tied at 0-0.  In the second half, however, ASC managed to score making the score, 0-1.  But, our girls never gave up and late in the game Jamie Soroka received a nice chip shot from Kiyomi Mitsuda and the Chadwick standout was able to cross it over to Jackie McGuiness for a last minute score.  The game ended in a tie, 1-1.  Way to come back, Fram!

As of tonight, Fram CQ needs to wait for the outcome of tomorrow’s Carlsbad vs ASC game to find out where they’ll finish in their Pool.  Stay tuned for updates later this weekend.

Update 4/6/09: Carlsbad Lightning beat ASC Express, 3-1, Sunday afternoon and their victory gives us sole possession of 1st place in Pool L!  Congrats to coach Brian Boswell and the rest of the Fram CQ team for advancing to the Round of 32.

Update 4/14/09: We will be playing Real California FC Black at 10 am on Saturday, April 18th, in Bakersfield.  This team finished 6-3-5 in Silver North (3rd Place) last year.  Go Fram!

5018   Bakersfield KCSP SC   10:00 AM   19  Fram C Q     vs. Real California FC Black

Update 4/18/09:  Our Fram CQ girls played a strong team in the Round of 32.  Real California FC was previously a Silver Elite team (2007) and did well in Silver North last year.  Despite this team's strengths, Fram played extremely well as they controlled the game and took many more shots than Real CA.  Unfortunately, none of our shots found the back of the net and in the second 10-minute overtime period, Real California scored off a corner kick and that's how our 2008/09 season came to a close.

Despite the loss, however, Coach Brian Boswell really felt that the team played well.  Moreover, he was pleased with the girls' performance in passing & controlling the ball and further felt that the loss was a bit unlucky.   The team will continue to practice throughout the rest of April and then take May & most of June off.   Good job, Fram, and congratulations on a great year in 2008.
