DBWV Update - 2/8/09

Saturday, January 24th, marked the return of the Fram CQ GU14 Silver team.  This was their first taste of competition since they last played in League Cup on November 15th.   They played with only 12 players as they lost four players to high school, but the team did pick up a new player, Kyla Diekmann, who previously played for South Bay Force Gold.  This tournament also featured the return of Ellen Craparo.  Ellen sustained a severe ankle injury last November, and it was terrific to see her back on the pitch.

Our first opponent was against LAFC, and it was a pretty hard fought game between both teams.  After both teams could only muster a few shots a piece, LAFC eventually scored during the first half and they held on to win, 1-0.

The day’s second game was against AC Brea, and after being outshot many times in the first half, they were able to score off a corner kick in the first half. However, this seemed to wake up our Fram girls as they completely out shot and out played AC Brea in the second half and went on to take an easy win, 3-1. Kyla scored the first and third goals in her tournament debut with the team, and Alyssa Llojacovarubio scored off a nice assist from Taylor Law.

Right now there is a break for our team in the tournament due to the poor field conditions.  However, pool play continues tomorrow for four GU14 teams, and we need to wait to see how these games unfold before we know when we play again.  There’s a strong possibility that we will still qualify for the Quarterfinals. Stay tuned!

Update (2/8/09): Today's game against Foothill Storm was very competitive.  After a tough first half, the team regrouped during halftime and Coach Boswell underlined the importance of marking the opponents & being first to the ball.  The team turned the tide in the second half and really controlled that half.  They were quite unlucky not to have scored as there were several opportunities in the second half.  The game ended in a tie, 0-0, and it went straight to PKs.  Unfortunately, Fram CQ lost on PKs but the team did have a very strong showing.  The next tournament will be mid March in Irvine.
