Update - 3/15/09: The Fram CQ GU14 team played in their second tournament of the year and their first game on Saturday, March 14th, was against Newport Mesa SC. This team finished in 3rd place in Silver South last year. Although our Fram team controlled the majority of the game & outshot their opponents by a pretty large margin, Newport managed to get a good shot from the outside and won, 1-0.
The team’s second game was against our former rival from last Spring season, Claremont. The girls played very well and controlled the entire game. Jamee Lamers took a nice corner that led to a Jamie Soroka score, and Nichola Mottram popped one in later in the game. The team went on to win, 2-0.
The tournament rules stated that only the top team from each pool would advance to the Finals on Sunday afternoon. Therefore, after our early loss to Newport Mesa, the odds looked against us to make the Finals. In order for this to happen, we would have to win against Santa Monica on Sunday, and Newport would have to lose to Claremont on the same morning. But, never say never...
Sunday morning’s game was against our former Silver West rival, Santa Monica United, and the team played some terrific soccer. They passed well and really controlled a lot of the game. After scores by Jamee Lamers off of Kendall Collard’s corner kick, and Taylor Law’s nice header from Jenny Rheingold’s cross, Fram won the game, 2-0.
So, now the team’s fate of the Finals was in Claremont’s control. If they could beat Newport, then we would advance. After being down, 0-1, Claremont tied the score on a PK, and then scored late in the game to win, 2-1.

The team would play Porta FC from Nevada in the Finals. In a hard fought match, the game ended in a 0-0 tie and went straight to PKs. Unfortunately, the team would lose on PKs, 3-2, despite a great effort by Kylie Butler with her two saves. Nevertheless, the tournament was a strong showing for the team and this was a nice tune up for State Cup on April 4th & 5th. Congratulations to coach Brian Boswell and the rest of the players. Way to go, Fram!
